London – Talent

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009

One of the biggest tourist attractions in London is its theatre. Many shows deservedly run for years but there are often gems which have limited runs. The great thing about Concierge Desk is that it is a website which allows you to book cheap theatre tickets for an incredible range of shows.
An award winning play written by Victoria Wood and now directed by her is being revived and will run at the Menier Chocolate Factory from the 23rd of September 2009 until the 14th of November with previews commencing on the 17th of September 2009.
The show is ‘Talent’, which originally opened in 1978 at the Sheffield Crucible. It also transferred to London in 1979 where it won an Evening Standard Award for best playwright. It was then adapted for television.
The play tells the story of Julie and her fat friend Maureen who take part in a talent contest at Bunter’s nightclub. The show is full of great one-liners as well as original songs and the slightly skewed observations that Victoria Wood has become renowned for.
Leanne Rowe who is currently playing Baby in ‘Dirty Dancing’ will play Julie and Susie Toase, currently appearing in the latest Harry Potter film as Alecto Carrow plays Maureen.
They are joined in the cast by former children’s television presenter Mark Curry who plays the compere. Mark Hadfield, recently seen in ‘Rookery Nook’ at the same venue plays Arthur Hall and Jeffrey Holland, best known for his TV roles such as Spike in the long running ‘Hi-De-Hi’ plays George Findley.
