The Notebook of Trigorin
Wednesday, March 17th, 2010‘The Notebook of Trigorin’, an adaptation of Chekov’s ‘The Seagull’ by Tennessee Williams will receive its London premiere at the Finborough Theatre in London, where it will run from 30th March to 24th April. It forms the centrepiece of the Finborough’s thirtieth anniversary. Theatre tickets for this show are on sale now.
It is particularly appropriate that this show should be directed by Phil Willmott, who has directed more plays at the Finborough than any other director. Indeed, his visits seem like the first thing that gets written on the Finborough’s year planner. His previous shows there have included superb productions of John Galsworthy’s ‘Loyalties’ and Gorky’s ‘The Lower Depths’. In fact his adaptation of the Gorky play has recently been published in its own right. He also directs shows each summer at open air venue The Scoop. His musical ‘Once Upon A Time at the Adelphi’, which won awards when it was produced in Liverpool will receive its London theatre premiere later this year.
Another reason that this production seems especially apposite in 2010 is that it is the 150th anniversary of the birth of Anton Chekov. This play mixes that world with Tennessee Williams’ and the result is compelling.
