The Old Vic

Monday, April 26th, 2010

The Old Vic is widely regarded for the quality of its shows and the revival of classic playwriting, and this spring sees Tom Stoppard’s comedy The Real Thing returned to the stage. Toby Stephens leads a star cast, including Fenella Woolgar, Hattie Morahan and Barnaby Kay.

Stephens plays successful playwright Henry, whose wife Charlotte (Woolgar) performs the lead role in his latest play, a story about adultery. Henry has meanwhile fallen in love with Annie (Morahan), the wife of Henry’s friend and Charlotte’s co-star Max (Kay).  The play centres on Henry, and casts a close examination on the nature of art and love as it questions the reality of Henry’s and Annie’s feelings toward each other.

Fenella Woolgar was last seen at The National Theatre in London in Time and The Conway’s alongside Morahan, before which she appeared in at The Royal Court in Motortown.

Morahan is a familiar face on the London theatre scene and besides Time and The Conway’s she appeared in Some Trace of Her, also at The National Theatre. She too has performed at The Royal Court in The City and the Donmar Warehouse in The Family Reunion.

Kay was seen most recently in A Streetcar Named Desire at The Donmar Warehouse theatre in London, and previous theatre credits include War and Peace at The Hampstead Theatre and RSC’s As You Like It at The Novello Theatre.
