We Will Rock You

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

We Will Rock You’, the musical by Ben Elton which features the songs of Queen, continues to enjoy fantastic success in London. In fact, such is the demand for theatre tickets for this show that bookings have now been extended by a further seven months, through until 23rd October 2010.

The show features 32 Queen songs and it has been calculated that the show sells about 600,000 theatre tickets each year. The show is at the Dominion Theatre in London, which is one of the biggest in the West End. It is the longest running musical to ever play there.

As you would expect, the show is spectacular and over a million pounds worth of LED screens were especially imported for it. The show has already opened in over 20 locations around the world in addition to London. These include Australia, Japan, America, Spain, South Africa, Canada and New Zealand.

The show includes hits which span Queen’s career from ‘Killer Queen’ and ‘Seven Seas of Rhye’, through to ‘Innuendo’ and ‘These Are the Days of Our Lives’ as well as ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’, ‘Don’t Stop Me Now’ and anthems such as ‘We Will Rock You’ and ‘We Are the Champions’.

Such is the longevity of Queen’s music that their songs were recently featured in an episode of ‘The X-Factor’.

We Will Rock You gets ready for London 2012

Sunday, August 24th, 2008

The Olympics in Beijing, China, came to an end today and the closing ceremony saw the handover to London for the 2012 Olympic Games. This saw the Olympic flag handed over to London in readiness for the games in four years time.

In the closing ceremony, the three times gold medallist for Great Britain, Chris Hoy, held aloft the Union Flag as British stars took to the stage, including Leona Lewis and former England captain David Beckham.

Other British Olympians took part, including the swimmer Victoria Pendleton and a London Bus.

All attention then turned to London as it prepared to welcome the Olympics in 2012, and among the partygoers in the capital were the full cast of London’s West End show We Will Rock You. Performances and parties took place at the Memory Tower and outside Buckingham Palace.

Around 40,000 Londoners revelled in the streets as the capital held a massive party to celebrate the handover for the 2012 Olympics, and London’s West End took a lead role in the show with the cast of the Queen musical.

Britain won its best medal haul for a century in Beijing with 19 gold, 13 silver and 15 bronze medals. At London 2012 Britain will be hoping to better that total.
