Richard Eyre is to direct the latest play from talented writer Moira Buffini, Welcome To Thebes, which will run at the National Theatre in London on the Olivier stage from June. Theatre tickets are currently on sale.

David Harewood, who previously appeared in award winning play The Mountaintop playing legend Martin Luther-King, takes on the role of Theseus alongside Nikki Amuka-Bird in the role of Eurydice. Other cast members include Joy Richardson, Chuk Iwuji, Vinette Robinson, Bruce Myers and Tracy Ifeachor.

Welcome To Thebes is a reimagining of Greek Mythology, set in the contemporary world. Previews begin on 15th June.

Actor David Harewood is most noted for his recent performance in The Mountaintop, a two-hander from Katori Hall, which recently won an Olivier award for Best New Category Play, beating Enron and Jerusalem to the top spot. Harewood’s previous stage credits include a wealth of work with the National Theatre in London and the RSC. Screen credits include Doctor Who and Blood Diamond.

Nikki Amuka-Bird’s previous theatre credits include The Servant of Two Masters, The tempest and A Midsummer Night’s Dream with the RSC; World Music at the Donmar Warehouse; Twelfth Night at Bristol Old Vic and Doubt at the Tricycle Theatre. She is currently appearing at the Hampstead Theatre in The Gods Weep. Screen credits include The No 1 Ladies Detective Agency by Anthony Minghella, The Omen and Cargo.
