Swashbuckling Crusader helping Vulnerable Children

Friday, September 12th, 2008

Romantic, passionate and dramatic, the tales of the Zorro legend are fantastically put together in the West End hit currently running at London theatre The Garrick. The swashbuckling antics are supported by a backdrop of stunning flamenco dancing, and wonderful rhythmical beats from the legendary group The Gypsy Kings.

Zorro, one of London Theatre’s most popular musicals is holding a charity performance on Wednesday 17th September, for ‘Kids Company’.

The charity was founded in 1996 by Camila Batmanghelidjh, “in order to provide practical, emotional and educational support to vulnerable inner-city children and young people” (kidsco.org.uk). Kids Co. help children who have suffered traumatic experiences and have been subjected to behavioural, social and emotional challenges.

Over 12,000 children benefited from the charity’s services in 2007, which are based on therapeutic principles. Kids Company’s stated goal is “..to provide an environment where relationships of empathy and attachment can be fostered between children and trusted adults”.

All involved with the production of Zorro hope that Wednesday 17th will be a packed house, as all proceeds will be donated to the charity. If you want your theatre ticket expenditure to go to a good cause, this is the night to clear your schedule.

Zorro fights on into the New Year

Wednesday, August 13th, 2008

The masked avenger known as Zorro is fighting on well into the New Year in London’s West End. Theatre tickets are selling so well, that according to ‘Official London Theatre’, the show that was originally only scheduled to run up to January 2009 has now been granted an extended run through to September 2009.

The show opened earlier this summer on July 15th.

Zorro is an iconic hero who was first created by Johnston McCulley, the pulp fiction author, in 1919. Since his creation Zorro has figured in practically every medium, including TV, film, comic, cartoon, books, a Nintendo Wii game and now in London’s West End as an all singing, all dancing theatre production.

Zorro is the Spanish Robin Hood, a nobleman who dons a secret identity to help his oppressed people against injustice. His real identity, Don Diego de la Vega, just like Robin Hood, is a wealthy man who takes to the sword to fight for what he believes in.

The theatre show of Zorro features high octane action to the music of the Gypsy Kings.

If you haven’t seen Zorro yet, with this extended run you’ll have more opportunity to grab yourself some cheap theatre tickets to experience the masked blade.

Zorro will fight on where others have failed

Zorro Theatre Tickets

The musical of Zorro will fight on to be a success where other large budget musicals have failed in recent times, according to Isabel Allende, the author of 2005’s Zorro. She claims that the stage production of Zorro doesn’t need to rely on the technological theatre that other performances, such as ‘Gone with the Wind’ and ‘Lord of the Rings’ had to do recently. Where they’ve both come and gone, she believes that Zorro can last the test of time and hold its own in the West End.

Isabel Allende believes that Zorro is destined for success:

Zorro was the first action hero. Superman, Spider-Man and the rest all came after him and are a copy of his character. All the others may have modern technology and magic powers but there’s something about Zorro that makes people feel they can be him. You can never be Superman but, given the right circumstances, a mask and a sword, you can fight for justice.

The latest Zorro incarnation comes from Christopher Renshaw, and is winning over new fans with its energetic performances. With Rafael Amargo taking control of the choreography and the Gipsy Kings providing the Latin flair, the show has a definite hint of Latino.

Amargo is very excited about the possibilities of Zorro.

Zorro is very flamenco: the attitude, the heart, the charm. I don’t sing, otherwise it would be the perfect role for me. In my life, when people tell me to shut up, I say: “No, why?” I am very rebellious and in my art I am the same.

Zorro delayed by fault

Monday, July 21st, 2008

Zorro Tickets

He may be the masked avenger and unmatched with a blade, but when it comes to a simple automation fault even the mighty Zorro flounders. Thursday night’s production of Zorro was halted for nearly an hour as audiences sat and waited for the £3 million production to commence.

Initially audiences were told there would be a ten minute delay, but that was soon extended to a fifteen minute delay, then a twenty minute delay and so on and so forth. Audience members were even offered refunds after forty-five minutes.

When the show did eventually start many of the audience were unhappy at the delay, and had even started booing and mocking the organisers of the production. It was the poor communication from the theatre show staff that caused the most irritation.

Once the show did get underway however the audience soon came round as they were dancing in the aisles along with the music from the show.

Zorro may have been delayed by the fault, but as even the tough audience found out, he’s worth waiting for. Buy Zorro tickets with Concierge Desk today!
