Cat On A Hot Tin Roof
Thursday, March 25th, 20102010 looks set to be a good year for admirers of Tennessee Williams. The Finborough Theatre in London has already announced Phil Willmott’s production of the rarely performed ‘The Notebook of Trigorin’ and ‘Cat On A Hot Tin Roof’ is currently enjoying its run at the Novello Theatre with theatre tickets available for performances until 10th April.
The play is set in Mississippi and, as with many of Williams’ works seems to swelter in the heat of a never ending summer. It tells the story of Big Daddy, a wealthy cotton planter, and his dysfunctional family.
The production has already been a hit on Broadway and James Earl Jones and Phylicia Rashad have travelled across the Atlantic to reprise their roles. They have been joined by some excellent British actors.
Adrian Lester is probably best known for his television work in series such as ‘Bonekickers’ and ‘Afterlife’ and, of course, his role as lovable rogue Mickey in the BBC show ‘Hustle’. His films include ‘Born Romantic’, ‘Spiderman 3’ and Kenneth Branagh’s ‘As You Like It’. He also has some heavyweight stage credits including the role of Hamlet for Peter Brook and the title role in ‘Henry V’ at the National Theatre in London.
