Judgement Day
Friday, August 14th, 2009London Theatre is far more than the West End. You can travel down to the Southbank and visit the National Theatre, the Old Vic and the Young Vic, pop along to Covent Garden and see what’s on at the Donmar Warehouse or venture up to Islington where you have not only the King’s Head, one of London’s leading pub theatres but also the Almeida. Wherever you plan to go, don’t forget that Concierge Desk has the very best in cheap London theatre tickets.
At the Almeida from the 10th of September until the 17th October is ‘Judgement Day’ by the Austrian playwright Odon Von Horvath. Previews start on the 4th of September. It was the writer’s final play and was written in 1937. Christopher Hampton has written the new version and it will be directed by James Macdonald.
The play tells the story of Thomas Hudetz, a hard working station master, who falls for the charms of the beautiful and flirtatious Anna. There is a fatal train wreck and the villagers feel the need to find a scapegoat.
The cast includes Suzanne Burden, Alan David, Laura Donnelly, Ben Fox, Tom Georgeson, Daniel Hawksford, Jack James, Joseph Millson, Jake Nightingale, Julie Riley, Andy Williams and Sarah Woodward.
Christopher Hampton has previously adapted other works by Von Horvath. These included ‘Tales From the Vienna Woods’ and ‘Don Juan Comes Back From the War’. Theatre tickets for this show promise to sell well so it would be wise to book early.
