Open Air Theatre Regents Park

Thursday, July 15th, 2010

The Open Air Theatre Regents Park commences with its celebrated summer season of classic plays and musical production. This year opens with Arthur Miller’s The Crucible, and theatre tickets are available to buy now.

Arthur Miller’s renowned play The Crucible is set in Salem Massachusetts in the year of 1692, an era plagued with puritanical religion and accusations of witchcraft. Three girls of the town are hailed with such accusations after rumours are spread and the locals, already battling their petty rivalries, turn hearsay and suspicion into hard evidence. As the girls stand up against the court the town is split into those who want truth and those who seek mindless, so called ‘justice’. The play is based on a period of persecution and communal hysteria in the 1950s, when Senator J R McCarthy conducted his unscrupulous and vigorous investigations.

The cast of The Crucible includes Patrick O’Kane, Emily Taaffe, Emma Cunniffe, Oliver For-Davies, Charlie Cameron, Lucy May Barker, Philip Cumbus, Susan Engel, Anni Domingo, Christopher Fulford, Christopher Hunter, Patrick Godfrey, Bettrys Jones, Geoff Leesley, Paul Kemp, Alexandra Mathie, Ellie Paskell, Gary Milner and Malcolm Rogers.

Timothy Sheader directs the production, with design from Jon Bausor, sound by Nick Powell and Fergus O’Hare, lighting by Paul Keogan and movement by Liam Steel.

Following The Crucible in the summer season is Shakespeare’s The Comedy of Errors and Macbeth, and the musical Into The Woods.
