The Rocky Horror Show

Friday, August 7th, 2009

Richard O’ Brien and Richard Hartley wrote the hugely successful phenomena ‘The Rocky Horror Show’. It has been a hard act to follow partly because of the continued presence of the show and the way it keeps winning new generations of fans. Although they have a new show opening in the autumn, it is the new tour of the old favourite that will inevitably be selling more theatre tickets.
Christopher Luscombe returns to the show as director and is joined by David Bedella reprising his role as Frank N Furter, the mad scientist.
The tour will commence in September and is currently scheduled until February next year although further dates are expected. It will play Stoke-on-Trent, Milton Keynes, Bromley, Woking, Brighton, Birmingham, Liverpool, Windsor, Glasgow, Manchester, Southampton and Leicester.
The play tells the story of all American sweethearts Brad and Janet and what happens when their car breaks down on a dark and stormy night and they go to a local castle for assistance. Classic songs include ‘The Time Warp’ and ‘Sweet Transvestite’.
Meanwhile O’Brien and Hartley’s new show, ‘Stripper’ will open at the Queen’s Theatre Hornchurch and then go on a short tour. It is based on Carter Brown’s 1981 book of the same name. It promises to be a “burlesque and bullets musical theatre adaptation.”
