Thriller Live Review
Monday, May 4th, 2009
The musical ‘Thriller’, which is based on the songs of Michael Jackson, seems to be here to stay at least for a while. The show had a one night try out in the West End in 2006 and then went on tour. At the beginning of this year it opened at the Lyric Theatre in Shaftesbury Avenue and has now announced it is extending its booking period until the 3rd of January 2010.
Maria Lawson, who was one of the losing finalists on television reality show ‘The X Factor’, has now joined the cast. She joins a cast which already includes Denise Pearson who was lead singer with British pop group Five Star. Also included are John Moabi, Ben Forster and Roger Wright. Perhaps one of the most experienced members of the cast is Earl Perkins who also appeared in ‘Rent’ and ‘Dancing in the Streets’ in the West End.
The show is described as a concert celebration and, as you would expect, includes a selection of hits made famous by Michael Jackson and the Jackson 5. These include, ‘I’ll Be There’,’ Billie Jean’, ‘Blame it on the Boogie’, ‘I Want You Back’, ‘Beat It’, ‘Earth Song’, and ‘Thriller’.
The London show is written by Adrian Grant, designed by Jonathan Park and directed by Gary Lloyd.
