Billy Elliot at the Victoria Palace Theatre
Booking up to 20 December 2008
Stephen Daldry’s Billy Elliot is a West End masterpiece. It is the most engaging production, full of energy and spirit and the same gritty truth that the original movie was so well received for. Along with Elton John’s music, I consider the theatrical adaptation of Billy Elliot even better than the movie.
The cast are simply superb and the tear jerking moments are even more poignant. I wasn’t the only person who left the Victoria Palace with tears streaming down my face. The harsh political back story is enhanced too, with a tremendous, highly charged staging of the confrontation between miners and police.
Overall Billy Elliot is stunning and although some of the language may offend some people and unfortunately make it inappropriate for real youngsters. It still manages to be a family show; a wonderful, hopeful portrayal of a past era.
