The classic novel, Gone With the Wind has been a best seller for seven decades, and won the Pulitzer prize a year after it’s release in 1937. Gone with the Wind was also adapted for film in 1939, winning numerous Academy Award Oscars including Best Picture, Best Writing and Best Screenplay. And it is anticipated that the West End musical adaptation of the classic will also be a massive success, with theatre tickets for Gone With the Wind at the New London Theatre already in great demand.
Set in Georgia in America’s deep South over a 10 year period spanning the American Civil War, Gone With the Wind follows the turbulent relationships of Scarlett O’Hara, a young, fiery and rebellious plantation owner’s daughter, as she journeys from a life of luxury through dangerous and unstable times during and after the war. The story examines Scarlett’s experiences with family, friends and lovers during those blustery years and the effects the War has on her life in the aftermath of the conflict.
Noted for it’s historical accuracy, Gone With the Wind is not only a captivating love story, but also an examination of survival and the lives and experiences of the different classes during the drama of the Civil War.
With a creative team including veteran West End theatre director, Sir Trevor Nunn CBE, and set and costume designs by John Nappier and Andreane Neofitou, Gone With the Wind is tipped to be one of the most outstanding classic musicals to come to London for years.
