The Sound of Music – Booking Period Extended
The Sound of Music theatre production has extended it’s run at the London Palladium Theatre. Theatre tickets for the London show are now available until October 2008. The London theatre adaptation of the Rodgers and Hammerstein family classic stars the recently discovered talent of Connie Fisher, winner of the BBC reality talent show, ‘How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?’. Based on the book ‘The Story of the Trapp Family Singers’ by Maria Von Trapp, The Sound of Music was first staged on Broadway in 1959, winning the Tony Award for Best Musical, and was later adapted for film in 1965 in the Academy Award winning movie musical by the same name. The show is based on a true story and has been staged at numerous theatres worldwide, and continues to be one of the most popular musicals of all time.
Set in Salzburg, Austria just prior to the outbreak of World War 2, The Sound of Music tells the story of Maria, a rather ‘troublesome’ nun in training. It is decided that Maria’s vocation needs to be tested, and she is sent from her convent to become governess to the Von Trapp family. Headed by widower, Captain George Ritter Von Trapp, a decorated World War 1 hero, the seven children are raised in a strict, disciplined militaristic style household, much to the displeasure of Maria. Although rather mischievous and unapproachable to start with, the children soon warm to the caring Maria as she attempts to bring love, laughter and music to the family. It is not long before an element of romance enters the house, as the beautiful Maria gradually falls for the stern Von Trapp, but will love blossom?
