Show Overview

The London show Grease is based on the groundbreaking movie starring John Travolta and Olivier Newton-John.  The musical is set in 1959 in Chicago in a fictional High School called Rydell High and  is the story around the tumultuous relationship between Danny Zuko and Sandy Dumbrowski.

At the beginning of the school year, there is a group of male teenagers called the Burger Palace Boys (the Greasers) and the all female Pink Ladies. Sandy and Danny had met the summer before and had a fling but neither of them know they are now going to the same school. Sandy tells the Pink Ladies all about this wonderful guy whilst Danny brags to his fellow Greasers about this girl he slept with. When they do finally meet up, Danny ignores Sandy trying to be cool in front of his friends and Sandy realises Danny has told stories about her being 'easy'.

At the end of year fair, Sandy has reinvented herself and stuns everyone with her new alluring look in tight leather and wild hair. Danny is overwhelmed by this transformation in the person whose affections he had been trying to win back. Rizzo is found to be not pregnant and they all 'live happily ever after'.

Teenage anxieties are delicately addressed in Grease; Rizzo's fear of pregnancy, Frenchy's failure and subsequent drop out of school and Sandy's feeling of not being accepted.
