Show Overview
High School Musical is a modern day
Romeo and Juliet. The main protagonists Troy and Gabrielle
are polar opposites. Troy is a popular basketball player
whereas Gabrielle is an intellectual good at maths and
science. Their 'love' story begins when they meet at a New
Year's Eve party where they sing together at Karaoke. At the
same school and both feeling the chemistry between them,
their friendship grows.
The school is putting on a musical and Gabrielle goes to
audition. Singing at a musical is not really what is
expected of the sporty Troy but he decides he would like to
try too. After initial set backs, the director of the High
School Musical hears them sing together and calls them back
for a second audition.
Their friends do not like the changes that Troy and
Gabrielle's relationship is bringing about and tell them
lies about each other. But this makes everyone even more
unhappy and eventually the truth comes out. Gabrielle is
still angry with Troy and in an attempt to apologise and win
her over, he climbs onto her balcony.
Their main rivals for leads in the musical attempt to ruin
their chances at the call back but with the support from
teachers and fellow students, Troy and Gabrielle again get
to sing and win the coveted parts.
Including the all the characters and music from the motion
picture, as well as some new songs specially for the theatre
production, High School Musical at the Hammersmith Apollo is
likely to be a huge success after the success of the 2006
movie.
