Show Overview
This wonderful London Show was first performed in 1895 and
it remains delightfully funny with its’ quirky Victorian
characters and wonderful dialogue.
The play's humour revolves around social decorum,
expectation and obligation. And about an imaginary hero
called Ernest.
The very 'correct' Jack Worthington is in love with the very
'proper' Gwendolyn Fairfax and his friend, Algernon
Moncrieff is in love with Cecily Cardew. The trouble is,
both Gwendolyn and Cecily are in love with Ernest.
Gwendoline loves Ernest because of his name but his real
name is in fact Jack and he was abandoned at a railway
station as a baby.
Cecily is Jack’s ward and she loves ‘London Ernest’, Jack’s
‘imagined’ brother; a London sophisticated socialite.
Admist all the complications there is the fabulous and very
imposing Lady Bracknell who is Gwendoline's mother.
Show Age Suitability
The Importance of Being Ernest is most suitable for an adult
audience.
